What audience safety protocols do I have to adhere to in order to attend a performance in Fall 2021?

We strive to ensure that every audience member has the best and safest experience possible and to protect the health of our performers and staff. In alignment with recent updates from California Department of Public Health, LA Opera has adopted a temporary vaccination-only policy as well as an indoor mask mandate.

These guidelines will be in effect beginning September 1, 2021 and will end as soon as they are no longer deemed necessary.  For full guidelines please click here.

EXCHANGING YOUR TICKETS

Change of plans? Looks like rain? Surprise visit from the in-laws? No problem.

Subscribers can exchange their tickets to any of our mainstage shows and pay no fees, or they may donate the value of their ticket back to LA Opera as a tax-deductible donation. Currently any ticket holder can exchange your ticket free of charge in the 2021/22 Season.

You may exchange your tickets up to 48 hours in advance of a performance online, in person, by phone, fax or email. Emergency exchanges made between 2-48 prior to a curtain can only be completed in person, or by phone. Additional fees, rules and/or restrictions may apply. All exchanges may be subject to a seating price increase.

ENHANCE YOUR EXPERIENCE

Get the full story by joining other opera-goers at our complimentary pre-opera talks at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.

Each season, James Conlon’s pre-show talks are an enormously popular highlight of every performance he conducts. Since Stern Grand Hall is currently unavailable for large, stationary gatherings (due to COVID-19 restrictions), the pre-show talk for Tannhäuser has been reimagined.

This time, James Conlon’s Tannhäuser talk will be filmed and made available to watch from home. Look for the link to the pre-show talk to be posted here soon and in the event reminder email you receive before the date of your performance. Additionally, for all performances—the talk will be screened on large outdoor monitors on the Music Center Plaza for audiences to enjoy, beginning one hour before the opera.

BRING THE KIDS. FOR HALF PRICE

OK, so Get Out with live orchestra might be a bit intense for little Sofia, we get it, but we love having kids at the opera. We welcome children 9-17 years of age as we know they will love the music and spectacle of live opera. We want them to come so much that we offer half price tickets for this age group. We also have many other programs for families.

Since many operas contain adult subject matter, we suggest that parents check the webpage of the opera they are considering attending for any parental advisories as well as the opera synopsis. to make sure it is suitable for their child. (Still have questions? You can always call the box office at 213.972.8001)

Our mainstage operas are not suitable for children under 9 and you will not be allowed into the theater with a very young child. Although you can watch from the lobby, you will likely enjoy the performance better if you leave the little ones at home. We have many, many other ways for you to enjoy opera with your very young child. Click here to learn how.
