LA Opera and The Wallis present tenor Ben Bliss in recital

(Los Angeles) November 10, 2025 — On Sunday, December 7, 2025, LA Opera and The Wallis will present Ben Bliss, one of the premier tenors of his generation, in an intimate recital appearance with pianist Bryan Wagorn.

Ben Bliss launched his professional career as a member of LA Opera's Domingo-Colburn-Stein Young Artist Program. He now appears regularly on the world's most important stages, including the Metropolitan Opera, Vienna State Opera, Paris Opera, Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Bavarian State Opera, Glyndebourne Festival, and appears in concert with the New York Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic and San Francisco Symphony. He has been cited as “an exemplar of the Mozartean tenor” for his “purity of tone, vocal control and artistic sensitivity” (Opera Warhorses). He returns to Los Angeles with a recital featuring European and American art songs, arias by Tchaikovsky and Massenet, and beloved standards by Sammy Fain, Stephen Sondheim and Benny Goodman.

About Ben Bliss
Hailed as a “truly exceptional tenor” by the National Review, Ben Bliss has established himself as one of the most exciting performers on today’s operatic stage. He was a 2021 recipient of the Metropolitan Opera’s prestigious Beverly Sills Award. He began the 2025/26 season with a return to the Metropolitan Opera as Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni. The season also includes his role debut as the Duke of Mantua in Rigoletto with the Canadian Opera Company, as well as another role debut as the title role in    Idomeneo with Washington Concert Opera. He also performs in Houston Grand Opera's staged Messiah, and sings Tamino in The Magic Flute with the St. Louis Symphony. Other concert highlights include a return with the Chicago Symphony for a Mozart Requiem as well as a Messiah concert tour with the Handel and Haydn Society.

Last season's highlights include two roles at the Metropolitan Opera: Eric in Jeanine Tesori's Grounded and Tamino in The Magic Flute. He also returned to the Opéra National de Paris as Tom Rakewell in The Rake's Progress and performed Jupiter in Semele for his debuts at both the Royal Opera House in London and the Théâtre des Champs Elysées in Paris.

Ben Bliss is an alumnus of LA Opera's Domingo-Colburn-Stein Young Artist Program (2011-13) and a 2022 recipient of the company's Eva and Marc Stern Artist Award. His leading roles with the company include Tamino in The Magic Flute (2016) and the tenor soloist in Bach's St. Matthew Passion (2022).

About Bryan Wagorn
Canadian pianist and vocal coach Bryan Wagorn regularly performs throughout North America, Europe and Asia as soloist, chamber musician and recital accompanist to the world's leading singers and instrumentalists. His recital with Ben Bliss marks his first appearance with LA Opera, and he will return for a March 21, 2026, recital with soprano Nadine Sierra.

His major television and radio appearances include performances on Good Morning America, WQXR and CBC Radio. A participant at the Marlboro Music Festival and member of the music staff at the Glyndebourne Festival, he has also been a staff coach at the Ravinia Steans Music Institute and served on the faculty of the National Arts Centre Orchestra’s Summer Music Institute and Carnegie Hall's National Youth Orchestra. He has been a guest coach at the Royal Academy of Music in London, the Metropolitan Opera's Lindemann Young Artist Program and at the Glyndebourne Festival’s Jerwood Young Artist Program. He made his solo recital debut at New York's Carnegie Hall in 2009, and has performed chamber music with members of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra and Chicago Symphony.
