Jeremy Frank

Chorus Director

Jeremy Frank has been LA Opera's Chorus Director since 2022.

Acclaimed by Opera News for his precise and disciplined direction and his superbly trained chorus, Jeremy Frank was named Chorus Director at LA Opera in 2022.  He is also a member of the faculty in the department of Vocal Arts and Opera at the University of Southern California.

Since joining LA Opera in 2007 as Assistant Conductor, he served as Associate Chorus Director from 2013 to 2022 and has worked closely with the Domingo-Colburn-Stein Young Artist Program. He has collaborated with major opera houses and festivals throughout the United States, including Seattle Opera, Utah Opera, Wolf Trap Opera, Lyric Opera Cleveland, the Castleton Festival, and the Ojai Festival.

He has assisted in the preparation of operas and vocal chamber music at the LA Philharmonic, working with conductors Gustavo Dudamel, Esa Pekka Salonen, Phillipe Jordan, Bernard Labadie, Grant Gershon, Barbara Hannigan, and Pablo Heras-Casado.

A widely respected pianist and vocal coach, he has partnered with Sondra Radvanovsky, J'Nai Bridges, Eric Owens, Dolora Zajick, Arturo Chacón-Cruz, Kate Lindsey, and Susan Graham. In collaboration with the Getty Villa and LACMA in Los Angeles and the Phillips Collection in Washington D.C., Frank has curated multimedia recitals which draw connections between the classical vocal repertoire and special exhibits in the museums.  He also accompanied Joyce DiDonato at the 54th Grammy Awards, the first time the ceremony featured a performance by a classical singer.

Under the auspices of LA Opera Connects, Frank was the curator and host of Opera Happy Hour, a web series designed to explore and demystify diverse facets of the art form.  Further embracing the intersection between classical music and popular culture, he has also repeatedly appeared on the podcast Nobody Listens to Paula Poundstone, teaching the legendary comedienne the intricacies of harmony, opera, and how to navigate the technically difficult terrain of the American national anthem.

Frank has been a guest coach at the Opernfestspiele St. Margarethen, in Austria, and has presented masterclasses at the Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Centre in Moscow and St. Petersburg.  He has worked with the young artist programs at Utah Opera and Seattle Opera, and he is a faculty member in the department of Vocal Arts and Opera at the University of Southern California.

Frank is a graduate of the Houston Grand Opera Studio and San Francisco Opera’s Merola Program.  He holds degrees in piano performance from St. Olaf College and the Cleveland Institute of Music and earned a Specialist Degree in Piano Accompanying and Chamber Music from the University of Michigan, where he was a student of Martin Katz.
