Timothy Eckert
Timothy Eckert enjoys a dynamic career in Los Angeles as a double bassist, recording artist and composer. He performs as a member of the Grammy Award-winning Los Angeles Opera Orchestra and the LA Master Chorale. He has also appeared with ensembles such as the Los Angeles Philharmonic, LA Chamber Orchestra, and the Santa Barbara and Pasadena Symphonies. An avid chamber musician, Timothy serves as principal bass of the Camerata Pacifica and has participated in the Idyllwild Chamber Music Festival and Santa Monica’s Jacaranda series. His ballet collaborations include performances with the Joffrey, Hamburg, New York City, American Ballet Theatre, and the Dutch, Cuban and Canadian national ballets. His past orchestral positions include the Long Beach Symphony and assistant principal bass of the Kalamazoo Symphony.
Active in the recording industry, Timothy has worked with a wide range of artists, including Eric Clapton, Madonna, Björk, Alanis Morissette, Bon Jovi, Faith Hill/Tim McGraw, Dr. Dre, Vampire Weekend, Brad Mehldau, Disturbed, and the Dave Matthews Band. His contributions to film scores feature collaborations with renowned composers such as Thomas Newman, James Horner, Hans Zimmer, Alan Silvestri, Jerry Goldsmith, James Newton Howard, Danny Elfman and John Barry, among others.
Timothy’s compositions, written in a broad range of styles, are extensively featured worldwide in hundreds of television series across networks such as CBS, ABC, Bravo, E!, History, MTV, Discovery, and National Geographic. From Nova to The Kardashians, Catfish to The Daily Show, and RuPaul’s Drag Race to CBS Sunday Morning News, Timothy has covered an extensive array of themes and genres.
He has performed extensively at the Aspen Music Festival, where he was twice awarded fellowships, and at Italy’s Spoleto Festival, where he served as principal bass of the Spoleto Opera.
Timothy holds a Master of Music degree from Indiana University, where he studied with Bruce Bransby and was awarded the prestigious Performer’s Certificate. He furthered his studies with Paul Ellison in USC's Advanced Studies Program. Timothy also participated in master classes with renowned bassist Franco Petracchi at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena, receiving the Diploma di Merito, and at the Sermoneta Corsi di Perfezionamento. Additionally, he is an alumnus of the Music Academy of the West, where he studied with Nico Abondolo, and the Aspen Music Festival as a student of Paul Ellison, Bruce Bransby, and Eugene Levinson.
