Roberto Cani, who passed away on April 9, 2025, after a brave battle with cancer, was a singular talent. Renowned on stages around the world, an invaluable leader and an incredible colleague, he joined LA Opera in the position of Stuart Canin Concertmaster in 2011. His close collaboration with Music Director James Conlon played a crucial role in fostering the distinct sound of the LA Opera Orchestra.
Born in Milan, Italy, he launched his concert career when he won the prestigious Paganini International Competition in Genoa at the age of 21. He also won top honors at the Tchaikovsky International Competition in Moscow. He performed with major orchestras throughout Europe and the United States.
