Peter J. Hall (1926-2010) was the longtime resident costume designer for the Dallas Opera, where he designed costumes (and occasionally sets) for more than 70 productions beginning with The Barber of Seville in 1962. He also designed costumes for the Metropolitan Opera where he served as resident costume designer for 11 seasons; for Covent Garden, Vienna State Opera, La Scala, Kirov Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Houston Grand Opera and at the Sydney Opera House. His last designs included Ariadne auf Naxos (Dallas Opera); Simon Boccanegra (San Francisco); Otello (South Korea); and Stiffelio (Teatro Nuovo in Argentina). He also designed theatrical productions for London’s National Theatre and for the Royal Shakespeare Company, as well as Much Ado About Nothing directed by Franco Zeffirelli in Rome.
