A Tribute to Roberto Cani

We want to honor the memory of Roberto Cani, our esteemed concertmaster, who passed away on April 9, 2025, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Celebrated on concert stages across the globe, Roberto was a remarkable artist, an invaluable leader, and a deeply respected colleague. Since joining LA Opera in 2011 as the Stuart Canin Concertmaster, his close partnership with Music Director James Conlon was instrumental in shaping the distinctive sound of the LA Opera Orchestra.

Born in Milan, Roberto embarked on an extraordinary career after winning the prestigious Paganini International Competition in Genoa at the age of 21. He went on to earn top honors at the Tchaikovsky International Competition in Moscow and performed with many of the world’s leading orchestras throughout Europe and the United States.

Roberto was not only an exceptional musician but also a devoted father, a loving husband, and a cherished friend. His warmth, generosity, and passion left a profound impact both on and off the stage. His artistry and his spirit live on in the countless lives he touched.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones.

In tribute to his legacy, we invite you to join us for a free memorial concert at Zipper Hall at the Colburn School in remembrance of our beloved concertmaster.
