Soprano Karen Hogle Brown has been a teaching artist with LA Opera Connects since 2003 for programs including Voices for Tolerance, Opera Camp, and In-School Opera. With the Los Angeles Master Chorale, she has taught for the song writing workshop: Voices Within and has performed with their outreach ensemble the LAMC Chamber Singers. She has conducted a number of youth choirs; taught at Pomona College, Cal Poly Pomona, and is currently on faculty at Occidental College; and runs a private voice studio. As a soprano, she has appeared with numerous organizations including the Los Angeles Master Chorale, LA Opera, Pacific Opera Project, Opera San Luis Obispo, Redlands Opera Theatre, Long Beach Opera, Opera a la Carte, OperaWorks and Cabrillo Music Theatre. As a recitalist, she is a winner of the Beverly Hills recital competition and presented world premieres of composer Shawn Kirchner’s music. She is featured on movie soundtracks such as X:men Apocalypse, Frozen, Big Hero 6, Minions, as well as classical recordings with the LA Master Chorale including most recently David Lang’s National Anthems and The Little Match Girl Passion. She holds a Bachelor's in Music Education and a Master's in Vocal Performance from The University of Arizona.
