Important Information

Dates

Students will meet with LA Opera's teaching artists five times (once a week) beginning with an orientation session the week of January 13, 2020. Orientation will be followed by two music weeks (January 20 & 27), then two staging weeks (February 3 & 10).
All workshops are scheduled for one class period, one day each week between 9:00am and 3:00pm. One performance day to be scheduled between February 18 and March 6, 2020.

Requirements

Teacher attendance is required at a preparatory in-service on Thursday, December 5, 2019 at 4:00pm at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.
Enrollment is open for up to 15 schools within a 30-mile radius of the Music Center. Maximum of 70 students per school from the 4th and/or 5th grade.
For EISO+, the maximum number of participating students is 45 for both 4th and 5th graders. Students must be in 4th and/or 5th grades for either EISO or ESIO+.
Applications are due by August 30, 2019.

Fee

The school participation fee for the Elementary In-School Opera program is $1500.

Scheduling Information

Scheduling Your Weekly Workshops

34. We are working with 15 schools, three each day. Scheduling workshops is a puzzle. In order to create a schedule that works for everyone, please list five choices for your one hour workshop, ranking from first to fifth choice.
For example: Thursdays from 9:00am-10:00am, Mondays from 11:30am-12:00pm, Tuesdays from 2:10pm-3:10pm.
We will repeat your workshop each week at the same time once the schedule is confirmed.

Scheduling Your Performance

35. Your students will perform twice in one day for your school and invited guests. We will need access to the performance space from 6:30am-4:00pm with your students rehearsing with us from around 9:00am.
Please refer to your school's master calendar and select five possible dates for you performance, ranking from first to fifth choice.
Choose between February 18, 2020 to March 6, 2020. Saturday, February 22, 2020 will be required for one selected school.
