March 31 – April 2, 2022

At the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion

One of the preeminent bel canto specialists of our time returns.

After leaving audiences standing on their feet at his 2019 Los Angeles recital, the enormously charismatic Mexican tenor (who was also unforgettable in his 2017 company debut in The Pearl Fishers) returns to the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. This time, he's back for two extraordinary recital appearances, once again partnering with pianist Ángel Rodríguez for performances of Italian and French arias, intoxicating zarzuela solos and beloved Mexican songs...all guaranteed to have you cheering.

All tickets now on sale below and include our ticket guarantee: should anything change and you don’t feel comfortable joining us, we’ll be happy to exchange or refund your tickets free of charge. Save more when you purchase a 2021/22 subscription package.

He's only the second singer in Metropolitan Opera history to be given encores in multiple productions there, bringing audiences to their feet with his jaw-dropping performance of Tonio's show-stopping aria in The Daughter of the Regiment (the one with the infamous nine high C's.) Want to get a sneak peek at his incredible voice?  Click below to watch.

Special Post-Show Concert on April 2nd - Celebrating 10th Anniversary of the Zarzuela Project
After the April 2nd recital, gather with us on the Jerry Moss Plaza to see LA Opera Connects teaching artists Melodee Fernandez (soprano), Jonathan Lacayo (tenor) and Matthew Tong (piano) perform alongside the internationally recognized Mariachi Voz de América. Combining vocal solos and mariachi music, this anniversary concert is a great way to come together and experience the joy of Spanish-language musical theater. See below for tickets to the double feature of Javier Camarena and the Zarzuela Project.

"If the artists' reception was thunderous before intermission, it was deafening at the recital's end. Only when they returned to the stage with music did it cease. That audience wanted them to perform all night... This was a fascinating performance and I hope Camarena will sing opera in L.A. soon."
