Helping to shape the future of arts leadership.

Every student deserves an equal chance to have the career of their dreamsand every opera company needs the participation of a broad and diverse staff. That’s why we created the LA Opera Academy. Through this one-of-a-kind program, high school students from communities underrepresented in the arts are embedded in the behind-the-scenes workings of LA Opera.

  • Leadership Academy:
Through a six-year paid internship in the administration departments of LA Opera, students receive extensive career and college guidance. Interns will emerge from the program with the tools to begin their own careers, taking with them a lifelong love of opera and the opportunity to contribute their unique perspective and skills to the opera field.

  • Russell Thomas Youth Artist Training Academy:
As our Artist in Residence, renowned tenor Russell Thomas is spearheading the Russell Thomas Youth Artist Training Academy. This program will give a small group of Los Angeles public high school students from underrepresented communities long-term vocal training to prepare them for future careers in opera.
