Helping to shape the future of arts leadership.
Every student deserves an equal chance to have the career of their dreams—and every opera company needs the participation of a broad and diverse staff. That’s why we created the LA Opera Academy. Through this one-of-a-kind program, high school students from communities underrepresented in the arts are embedded in the behind-the-scenes workings of LA Opera.
- Leadership Academy:
Through a six-year paid internship in the administration departments of LA Opera, students receive extensive career and college guidance. Interns will emerge from the program with the tools to begin their own careers, taking with them a lifelong love of opera and the opportunity to contribute their unique perspective and skills to the opera field.
- Tech Academy:
Our new online Tech Academy gives high school students the opportunity to connect with professional mentors and explore career pathways in theater and opera production and design through a series of specialty workshops.
- Russell Thomas Youth Artist Training Academy:
As our new Artist in Residence, renowned tenor Russell Thomas is spearheading the Russell Thomas Youth Artist Training Academy. This program will give a small group of Los Angeles public high school students from underrepresented communities long-term vocal training to prepare them for future careers in opera.
The LA Opera Academy is made possible by an Opera America Innovation Grant, supported by the Ann and Gordon Getty Foundation.
The Russell Thomas Youth Artist Training Academy is underwritten with generous support from an anonymous donor.
