LA Opera is seeking 4 male-presenting acro dancers and 4 female-presenting acro dancers, as well as 2 off-stage swings, for the 2023-24 David Hockney production of Turandot. This production is directed by Garnett Bruce and choreographed by Kitty McNamee. We are seeking dancers with exceptional ability in acrobatics, ribbon work and specialty partnering skills.

If offered a contract, dancers will need to be available for the start of rehearsals in mid-April 2024, through the final dress scheduled for May 15, 2024. The performance schedule is as follows:

May 18, May 26 (matinee), May 30, June 2 (matinee), June 5 and June 8

This audition will be by INVITE ONLY. We are asking all those interested to submit headshots, resumes, and video reels to submissions@laopera.org with the subject line “LA OPERA DANCE AUDUTION-[insert dancer name] “ by 11:59PM on March 21, 2024.

During your audition, please be prepared to demonstrate any special skills such as tumbling, ribbon work, partnering if requested etc. If selected to attend the audition, you will be notified no later than March 23, 2024 and given one of the following time slots:

March 26, 2024
11:00am – 12:00pm
12:00pm – 1:00pm
1:00pm - 2:00pm
3:30pm – 5:30pm – Callbacks

A warm-up room will be available prior to each audition slot. Dancers will be notified at the end of their time slot if they are being invited to a callback.

Individuals who are cast in this production and hired by LA Opera will be required to join AGMA (American Guild of Musical Artists, Inc.)

Rehearsal pay is $48.33/hour. Performance pay is $325.69/performance, or $244.26/performance when covering. These roles will be hired as W2 employees, and will need to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
