LA Opera's goal is to make it as easy as possible for students and seniors to know in advance how many seats will be available and when. (We do try to be helpful)

Before each performance LA Opera will announce if Rush Tickets will be available and HOW MANY seats will be available at the Rush price for a given performance. You can find this out before a performance by calling the Box Office at 213.972.8001 (Press 5)

The decision whether or not to sell Rush Tickets is made the morning of the performance or, in the case of weekend performances, on the Friday prior. Students and Seniors interested in rush tickets can call the Box Office at 213.972.8001 (Press 5) in advance to find out whether or not rush tickets will be on sale.

If we are able to offer Rush Tickets, when you arrive at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, a sign will be posted in the far-left Box Office window with that performance's Rush Ticket quantity two hours prior to curtain. Often an usher will assist by counting off people waiting in line, (They’re quite helpful too) so that everyone knows in advance whether or not they will be able to purchase at the Rush price.

TIPS ON RUSH TICKETS

We want to make sure that getting low cost Rush Tickets to see your favorite opera is as easy as pie.  So follow these simple tips:

  • Call ahead. (It’s easy) Check in with the Box Office at 213.972.8001 to see if rush tickets will be available.
  • Come early. When a limited number of seats are released, you have a better chance of getting in if you come early. Plus, parking is easier; you can leisurely grab a sandwich on the Plaza; (Or a cocktail) and you can attend the pre-performance lecture one hour prior to curtain. (They are fascinating and educational!)
  • Avoid matinees. The matinee subscription series is our most heavily sold package and many of the matinees sell out. It's a rare occurrence when we offer Student / Senior Rush for matinees, but you can always check in with Audience Services to be certain. (You never know! Perhaps it’s your lucky day)
  • Avoid Rush Tickets for blockbuster operas. The big name operas almost always sell out. Titles like The Magic Flute, La Boheme, The Marriage of Figaro, Carmen, La Traviata, etc. are extremely popular, and sometimes there are no seats left for rush sales. When you want to see one of these "bucket list" operas, we can't guarantee that there will be Rush Tickets, but your best bet is to try at one of the first few performances (don't wait until the final show) and come early for an evening performance (see above).
  • Buy Ahead for less. Avoid missing your favorite opera by buying ahead with tickets starting at just $16. The earlier you buy, the more you will save (it's like airline tickets).
