Opera at the Beach - FREE EVENT

A live broadcast

LA Opera presents Opera at the Beach, a live broadcast sponsored by Los Angeles County and by Supervisor Sheila Kuehl. Our season opener of DON CARLO, starring Plácido Domingo and conducted by James Conlon, will be broadcast live in high-definition from the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion to the big screen at the Santa Monica Pier, Saturday, September 22, 2018.

This event is FREE to the public. RSVP to receive additional information and a free gift at the event. Seating is General Admission. Arrive early to secure the best seats at the Pier.

                   Doors open at 4:00pm | Live broadcast begins at 6:00pm

Running time: approximately 3 hours and 15 minutes, including one intermission.

What to bring

to the Pier

Bring your own seating: blankets, low lawn seats and cushions. We suggest warm clothing and solid footwear as the surface of the Pier can be uneven. Outside food and non-alcoholic beverages are allowed. Food and beverages will also be available for purchase. 

PLEASE NOTE: All items and bags may be searched upon entry onto The Pier.

What to leave at home

or in the car

No canopies, tents or sun umbrellas. Grilling or cooking is prohibited. Avoid large coolers (handheld coolers are OK, but subject to search). Guests may not bring alcoholic beverages onto the Pier (though you may purchase tickets to The Wine Terrace). Sorry, no pets.  Smoking will not be permitted.

Don Carlo, one of Verdi's grandest and greatest works is an entharalling tale of morality and mortality. After losing his fiancée to his father, the king of Spain, Don Carlo realigns his sympathies and turns against the Spanish Inquisition, knowing full well that his vow to fight for liberty might ultimately cost him his life.

Take the Train

Take the Metro rail train to the Santa Monica Pier and take the Expo Line to the Downtown Santa Monica Station. Plan your trip on metro.net

Bike Valet

Free Service, 4pm-10pm

Bring your bike to a valet attendant, get your valet ticket then pick-up your bike after the opera. The Bike valet will be located on the beach, just south of the Pier near the vollyball courts.

Parking

at the pier

Nearest Parking is Lot 1 North - 1550 Palisades Beach Rd. Underneath the pier, accessible via Appian Way.  From Appian Way, proceed under the pier bridge to parking lot entrance. Parking Info & RatesParking Map

Wine Terrace Tickets

Presented by Los Angeles Magazine

Sip wine on the pier while watching the live broadcast. 

Featuring a variety of boutique wineries curated by wineLA including Anne Amie Vineyards, Beekeeper Cellars, Hawk and Horse Vineyards, Martian Ranch & Vineyard, Rideau Vineyard and more to be announced.

Tickets are $32 in advance, $42 at the door; must be 21 years of age with valid ID to enter. Wine Terrace Hours: 5pm-8pm.
