Teachers who complete the Discover Opera series are eligible for LAUSD Salary Point Credit. Professional, post-baccalaureate unit credit is offered through UCLA Extension.
Peek behind the scenes and learn the secrets of the opera house with LA Opera’s exciting new program for teachers: Discover Opera. From the page to the stage, you will be introduced to the composers, stories and performers of this riveting art form, as well as the theatrical art and craft. This is an opportunity to learn about your opera company directly from LA Opera artists, designers and administrators. Finally, we give you the tools to take opera back into your classroom with a hands-on, arts integration based lesson plans developed through the program.
All sessions take place on Saturdays from 9:00am to 3:00pm at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.

Enrollment in programs does not include admission to mainstage opera productions.
Fee: $20 per session or $70 if purchasing entire series before October 7, 2017. Parking and light refreshments included in fee.
LAUSD Salary Points:
There are two formats for earning one salary point: 15 hours of class time with 30 hours of homework/preparation, and 30 hours of class time with no homework/preparation.
For LA Opera Professional Development a total of 2 salary points are available by taking 30 hours of class time and 60 hours of homework/preparation. You can combine classes from Discover Opera and Opera for Educators to achieve the 6 classes needed.
