Secondary In-School Opera Application 2019/20

Things to know:

  • Teachers must attend a required orientation at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion on Thursday, August 22, 2019 at 4pm.
  • Workshops are once a week for 10 weeks, for one class period (between 9am and 3pm).
  • Enrollment is open for up to 10 schools within a 30-mile radius of the Music Center.
  • The school participation fee is $1,500.
  • Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Important Information

Dates

All students will meet with LA Opera's teaching artists ten times (once a week) beginning with Orientation week, August 26, 2019 to August 30, 2019.
Orientation will be followed by three music weeks and six staging weeks, September 2, 2019 to November 1, 2019
All workshops are scheduled for one class period, one day each week between 9:00am and 3:00pm. One performance day to be scheduled between November 12, 2019 and November 22, 2019.

Requirments

Teacher attendance is required at a preparatory in-service on Thursday, August 22, 2019 at 4:00pm at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.
Enrollment is open for up to 10 schools within a 30-mile radius of the Music Center. Maximum of 70 students per school from 6th-12th grades.
Applications are due by June 14, 2019

Fee

The school participation fee for the Secondary In-School Opera program is $1500.

Scheduling Information

Scheduling Your Weekly Workshops

33. We are working with 10 schools, two each day. Scheduling workshops is a puzzle. In order to create a schedule that works for everyone, please list five choices for your one hour workshop.
For example: Thursdays from 9:00am-10:00am, Mondays from 11:30am-12:00pm, Tuesdays from 2:10pm-3:10pm.
We will repeat your workshop each week at the same time once the schedule is confirmed.

Scheduling your Performance

34. Your students will perform once in one day for your school and invited guests. We will need access to the performance space from 6:30am-4:00pm with your students rehearsing with us from around 9:00am.
Please refer to your school's master calendar and select three possible dates for you performance, ranking from first to fifth choice.
Choose between November 12, 2019 and November 22, 2019. Saturday, November 16, 2019 performance date will be required for one selected school.
