The following internships are sponsored by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors through the Los Angeles County Arts Commission. In addition to their full-time 10-week paid internship, interns will participate in educational events as part of the program, which is funded by the Getty Foundation. In addition, LA Opera will have a limited number of unpaid internships. Candidates who are unable to meet the Arts Commission requirements may apply. Please indicate if you are applying for an Unpaid Internship.


The Education and Community Engagement Intern will work closely with the Program Manager to produce and present programs for the community both at the Music Center and throughout LA County. The intern will also be an integral team member of our intensive youth Opera Camp, developing study materials and presentations, planning field trips and camp activities, and serving as a Camp Counselor. The intern will also complete demographic and geographic analysis on community and school partners, give reports on findings and provide recommendations for future seasons. Schedule to include some nights and weekends.The intern should have an interest in opera and/or music. S/he should be a strong writer who enjoys performing research and has a keen attention to detail. Experience in desktop publishing is a plus.

The ideal candidate will have a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable car.

Under the guidance of the Marketing and Advertising Manager the intern will gain an inside look of how a performing arts entity brands itself, cultivates, engages, and grows an audience, while selling specific productions to specific targets. The Marketing Intern will learn the processes for planning and placing advertisements, researching markets, and tracking expenditures. The intern will create a marketing strategy and craft talking points in order to promote LA Opera Off Grand productions to potential advertisers and partners and may also assist in community events where LA Opera has a Marketing presence.

Comfortable in social situations and interacting with members of the public at various events (must be able to represent LA Opera). Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. for event coordination and set up. Ability to use a PC and iPad. Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, Facebook, YouTube, and Google. Evening and Weekend hours may be required.

The Development Intern will have the exciting opportunity to play an integral role in the success of LA Opera’s fundraising activities, which will support the production and community engagement events during the 2019/20 season. Working closely with the company’s Institutional Giving, Individual Giving, Research, and Special Events teams the Development Intern will learn how each team plays a critical role in the fundraising efforts of a nonprofit. The Development Intern will learn and develop skills in conducting donor prospect research, drafting solicitation and acknowledgement letters, grant proposals and reports, database management in Tessitura, assisting with gala planning activities, and helping at donor events.

The prospective intern should have strong writing, editing, analytical, and organizations skills. Strong computer proficiency is also required with skill in Microsoft Office Programs. Candidates should possess excellent communications skills and should have a friendly and professional demeanor. An interest in opera, music, and/or arts administration is a plus.
