About the Opportunity   
LA Opera is seeking a Tailor responsible for costume construction, costume alterations, pattern preparation and fabric preparation as instructed by the Head Tailor. This a seasonal position with benefits for the Spring season starting immediately.  


  • At least 2 years of experience as a Tailor in a professional costume shop  
  • Technical training courses or apprenticed in Tailoring.  
  • Experience in the principles and practices of construction of tailoring for stage costumes including Period costume cutting.   
  • Knowledge of fabrics and fibers including all tailoring canvases and interfacings 
  • Knowledge of sewing machine operations and hand techniques customarily used in tailoring  
  • Excellent time management skills   

Key Responsibilities:  

  • Construction of new costumes 
  • Preparation of fabrics and for cutting 
  • Assisting in measuring and assigning existing costumes. 
  • Some patterning and cutting as delegated by head Tailors. 
  • Ensuring every alteration is complete according to the notes taken at fittings, checking the racks and costumes 
  • If assigned to attend dress rehearsals, taking notes for alterations from artists and from the creative team.     

Hourly wages starting at $21.29
