Director of Communications
About the Opportunity
We are seeking a Director of Communications to oversee our diverse and broad communication and brand activities. The successful candidate will develop and implement campaigns and initiatives that support organizational goals, change product perceptions, enhance the awareness and reputation of the brand and company activities, as well as influence, engage and activate aspirational relationships on behalf of LA Opera.
Reporting to the Vice President of Marketing, Communications, and Technology Services, the Director of Communications will maintain and nurture a strong existing network of influential connections and leverage new opportunities by connecting with and activating a wide variety of influencers. The candidate will collaborate with leadership of other departments such as Development (Fundraising), Connects (Education and Community Programs) and Artistic/Production to provide communication leadership and determine opportunities for brand amplification. This position also works closely with the Senior Director of Marketing and the Marketing team to develop and execute public relations strategies that support seasonal marketing initiatives, create interest in opera in general, specific titles, and the company.
The Director of Communications manages the Communications team of staff, interns, and vendors.
This position is based at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in downtown Los Angeles.
Who we’re looking for
Experience in entertainment or the arts is not required, but an interest in and curiosity about opera and performing arts are a must.
Successful candidates for this role will have at least five years of strategic public relations management experience and at least three years in a supervisory capacity. They will understand branding and how to adapt a brand voice across multiple channels and targets. They also will have demonstrated success in generating publicity with tactics such as events, social media, programs, and placements, and experience developing and managing digital and social media programs.
Spanish/English bilingual is strongly preferred.

LA Opera has implemented a mandatory COVID vaccination policy, which requires employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID to perform work for the company beginning August 9, 2021.
