Daniel Unger studied architecture at the Technical University of Stuttgart. He began his career as an assistant at the Jena Theater, the Schauspielhaus in Hamburg, the Burgtheater in Vienna and the Staatstheater in Stuttgart.

He regularly collaborates with designers Katrin Nottrodt (Das Rheingold at the Berlin Staatsoper, staging by Nicolas Stemann) and Philipp Fürhofer (Verdi's Les Vêpres Siciliennes at Covent Garden, staging by Stefan Herheim ). He created the sets for Darlings Alive at the Schlachthaus in Bern (directed by Meret Matter), Bab und Sane (directed by Markus Klemenz) and Viva La Schauspiel (directed by Christian Weise) at the Staatstheater in Stuttgart, Reineke Fuchs (directed scene Christian Weise) at the National Theater in Weimar, Stella (directed by Brian Bell) at the City Theater in Ingolstadt and Fiddler on the Roof (directed by Johannes Schmid) at the Dortmund Opera House. He currently lives in Berlin and works as a freelance scenographer.
