Mezzo-soprano Alice Coote made her LA Opera debut in 2005 as Octavian in Der Rosenkavalier.
Renowned on the great recital, concert and opera stages of the world, her career has taken her from her beginnings in the north of England (born in Cheshire) to being regarded as one of the great artists of today. She has performed roles including Dejanira in Hercules, Leonore in La Favorite, Carmen, Charlotte in Werther, Dorabella in Così fan tutte, Lucretia in The Rape of Lucretia, Marguerite in The Damnation of Faust, Penelope in Ulysses, Octavian in Der Rosenkavalier, the Composer in Ariadne auf Naxos, the title role of Orfeo, Idamante in Idomeneo, both Poppea and Nerone in The Coronation of Poppea, Hansel in Hansel and Gretel, Prince Charming in Cendrillon and the title role in Ariodante.
She has appeared in these roles at Opera North, Welsh National Opera, Scottish Opera, English National Opera, Glyndebourne and the Royal Opera House. In Europe she has appeared at opera houses including Opéra de Paris and the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, in Amsterdam, Geneva, Munich, Frankfurt, and Salzburg. North American appearances include Lyric Opera of Chicago, Seattle, San Francisco, Toronto and the Metropolitan Opera.
Highlights for the 2017/18 season included Leonora in Thomas Adès’ The Exterminating Angel and Prince Charming in Cendrillon both at the Metropolitan Opera, a Carnegie Hall recital of song with Thomas Adès at the piano, Sara in Roberto Devereux for Oper Frankfurt, La Mort de Cleopatre with the Orquesta y coro de la comunidad de Madrid under Sir Mark Elder, the Duruflé Requiem with the Deutsches Symphonie – Orchester Berlin under Robin Ticciati, The Dream of Gerontius with the BBC Symphony Orchestra under Sakari Oramo, Ravel’s Shéhérazade with Bilbao Symphony Orchestra under Erik Nielsen, and Mahler's Symphony No. 3 at Wiener Konzerthaus under Cornelius Meister. She also performed in recitals at Wigmore Hall and the Wiener Konzerthaus.
