Hispanics for Los Angeles Opera promotes the appreciation of and attendance at opera performances of Los Angeles Opera by the Hispanic community of Los Angeles through education and cultural activities.
HLAO was organized in February 1992 at the request of the then General Director of LA Opera, Peter Hemmings, and with the enthusiastic support of Plácido Domingo, then Artistic Director, to promote the appreciation of, and attendance at, opera performances of LA Opera by the Hispanic community of Los Angeles.
HLAO provides information about LA Opera and coordinates social events throughout the year for interested Hispanics to learn more about the world of LA Opera and to meet and socialize with each other.
The organization has also provided support for the Educational and Community Programs of LA Opera, which provide opera performances and programs for underserved communities throughout Los Angeles. HLAO has also helped LA Opera raise over $1,150,000, since it's inception.
