Sal joined the Los Angeles Opera as a member of the chorus in 1995. Since then, he has participated in more than 120 productions, in over 70 different operas - presented in their original language. He is also a regular member of the LA Master Chorale since 1995 and has also done some solo assignments for the group. 

He hails from Hinunangan, Southern Leyte, Philippines in the central part of the country - known as the Visayan Islands. He graduated from the University of the Philippines with two majors: Bachelors Degree (BM) in Voice and a Teacher’s Diploma in Flute. He was a consistent scholar during his college days and actively involved himself (even after graduation and while teaching at the university) with the UP Madrigal Singers (AKA: Philippine Madrigal Singers) for almost 15 years. He has toured extensively with the group as a tenor soloist in Europe, North America and Asia.

Career Highlights:

     As “Crisostomo Ibarra” in the Filipino opera “Noli Me Tangere” presented in NY, Kennedy Center and at the Resorts World, Manila. Washington Post Review: “Malaki and his golden tenor anchored the opera and his expressive singing sent it soaring”.

     Toured with the LA Philharmonic and the LA Master Chorale with Maestro Gustavo Dudamel, The Gospel According to the Other Mary by John Adams: London, Lucerne, Paris and New York.
