Jose Simerilla Romero, born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, has been praised for his “remarkable bright ringing tone” and “charming comedic quality” by the Orlando Sentinel and has been called “a promising young tenor” and “one to keep an eye on” by critics.

For the summer of 2018, he was invited to perform at Carnegie Hall as part of Joyce DiDonato’s master class series and with the Houston Grand Opera as part of their Young Artist Vocal Academy program. In addition, he will be performing Rodolfo in La bohème at the Vienna Summer Music Festival and Alfred in Die Fledermaus at the Berlin Opera Academy.

He has appeared with many of Central Florida’s most prestigious theater and opera companies, including Opera Orlando, Central Florida Vocal Arts, Orlando Light Opera, The Space Coast Symphony Orchestra, Opera del Sol, First Coast Opera and the EMMA Concert Association. Recent performances include Count Danilovich in The Merry Widow, Captain Tarnitz in The Student Prince, King Kaspar in Amahl and the Night Visitors, the title role of Albert Herring, Ottone in The Coronation of Poppea and Eisenstein in Die Fledermaus. 

He has also performed as a soloist for choral associations including the Florida Music Education Association and American Choral Directors Association. 

He received his musical education in vocal performance from Valencia College and Stetson University. He has competed in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, the Deborah Voigt International Vocal Competition, NATS National Student Auditions, and the Greatest Composers International Music Competition.
