On September 12, two beloved iconic productions will launch LA Opera’s 30th Anniversary Season in grand style. This exciting double bill features Plácido Domingo singing the title role in Woody Allen’s exuberant staging of Puccini’s comic masterpiece Gianni Schicchi. After intermission, Maestro Domingo will take the podium and conduct Franco Zeffirelli’s epic production, Pagliacci, with an all-star cast.
Three decades ago, the curtain rose on LA Opera’s very first performance, with the legendary tenor performing his signature role in Verdi’s Otello. This opening night not only pays homage to his artistry and important role in our history, but celebrates LA Opera as a vital Los Angeles cultural institution and a company of international stature.
Opera Ball guests will walk the red carpet and begin the evening at 5pm with an elegant champagne reception followed by the performance and a spectacular dinner by Patina. The night of enchantment continues with cocktails and dancing.
On behalf of our leadership team—Plácido Domingo, James Conlon and Christopher Koelsch—we invite you to join us at what promises to be an exciting and memorable evening.
