Gabriel García Márquez suggested Marcela Fuentes-Berain as the librettist for Daniel Catán’s Florencia en el Amazonas, which is inspired by the writings of Márquez. Fuentes-Berain’s many projects include plays, television dramas, and screenplays. Her screenplays for Hasta morir earned her two Ariel Award nominations (Best Original Screenplay and Best Movie Script) from the Mexican Film Academy of Arts and Sciences. A native of Mexico City, she is a writer whose credits include the television series El diario de Daniela, La casa en la playa and El derecho de nacer and the film Lucía, Lucía. Her poetry has been published in the collections Ciudad y otras estaciones and Hotel Zafiro, and her poems have also been included in several anthologies.
